ऐ दोस्त मुसकुरा कि तबीयत उदास है।
है हुस्न का फ़ुसूँ भी इलाज-ए-फ़सुर्दगी।
रुख़ से नक़ाब उठा कि तबीयत उदास है।
मैंने कभी ये ज़िद तो नहीं की पर आज शब
ऐ महजबीं न जा कि तबीयत उदास है।

As per my little knowledge RABAB means TABALA.
रबाब एक वाद्य यंत्र है।
सर्वप्रथम अहोबल के ‘संगीत पारिजात’ में रबाब का उल्लेख मिलता है।
इसका पेट सारंगी से कुछ लंबा त्रिभुजाकार तथा डेढ गुना गहरा होता है।
शास्त्रीय संगीत का वर्तमान सरोद इसी का परिष्कृत रूप है।
इसमें तीन से सात तार तक होते है।
रबाब अफ़ग़ानिस्तान से पंजाब तक प्रचलित रहा है।
अनेक उष्कृष्ट रबाबियों की परम्परा में एक प्रतिष्ठित लोक-वाद्य के रूप इसकी ख्याति रही है।

rabab is a stringed musical instrument…..it dates back to sikh’s first master Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji……Guruji’s used to sing and Bala accompanied Him by playing Rabab…..Sarod (mostly played by amjad ali khan and his sons amaan and ayan ali khan) is the modified version of Rabab.

Rabab is very famous Indian musical instrument among ancient instrument found primarily in Afghanistan but in India is common in Kashmir. It is a hollowed-out body of wood with a membrane stretched over the opening.

The Rebab (Rebec) is an Arabic name. In Baghdad there is an interesting story about Rebab: It is written in -Tarikh-ul-Hukma- and -Mashahir-e-Alam- that about a thousand years ago, a -Hakim- of Bukhna, Abu Nasir Farsi, who was an accomplished singer and instrumentalist, played an instrument in a social gathering of a rich -Amir-. The gathering initially laughed, then cried and lastly was stimulated with the sound of the instrument. This was the Rebab, which completely overwhelmed the audience with its captivating sound.
